Brew Review: Montucky Cold Snacks Are Just Ok But At Least They Look Cool

Actual size maybe.

I rarely can find a reason not to have a beer. Even bad beer is still beer. Sitting around drinking a beer that’s just ok is still an enjoyable activity. When I saw Montucky Cold Snacks at the store I though to myself, what a delightful name. Surely this interestingly named and artistically packaged beer will be a fun, hip treat. I was not wrong, but perhaps I was also not right.

Montucky Cold Snacks is a really cool looking and sounding beer. It is. But it’s not that great. May not even be very good. But it wasn’t an awful beer. Honestly I thought it was pretty drinkable. The flavor palate is not overly distinct. It’s not a beer that you can feel strongly about either way. In my opinion though, the beer’s bland and neutral flavor doesn’t really matchup to the expectations set by the branding.

For being such an adventurously marketed beer the actual product ended up feeling extremely safe. I would have one. Not bad, not great. Do I have another? Sure. I could drink sit around and drink them but I would rather drink something else for that price. That’s not to say if you brought them over I wouldn’t have them.

From the can to the case, Montucky Cold Snacks are super cool looking but if you gave me one in a glass I would think it's lame. It badly wants to be a hipster beer but in reality is way too safe with its flavor choices. Ironically, “refreshing” might be the strongest word I could use to describe the flavor. At the end of the day, I would not recommend Montucky Cold Snacks as a regular beer option. There’'s no question the branding is very aesthetic but the choice of style over substance ends up being disappointing once it becomes time to actually drink the beer.
